Winter Tips for Your Air-conditioner!
- Set your temperature setting between 20°C and 24°C to find the most comfortable temperature for you—I usually find 23°C works best for me, but everyone is different! Don’t be afraid to experiment and see what feels right. Sometimes, simply increasing the fan speed can make your space feel cozier without needing to turn up the temperature, helping you stay comfortable while saving energy.
- Keep door and curtains closed to trap heat inside the home.
- Use your ceiling fans on the winter or reverse setting (clockwise) to circulate the warm air down from the ceiling.
- Remember to clean your filters regularly. Make it a habit: clean your filters at the start of each season. This simple step helps reduce the need for servicing and keeps your system running smoothly. It’s an easy way to boost performance and keep your home comfortable all year round!
- Consider installing a winter bag on your evaporative air conditioner. It’s a simple way to stop water leaks and block cold drafts, helping to keep your home snug and dry over winter.

WA Solar Battery Scheme

What You Need to Know
Applications are not yet open, as they are still finalizing everything but here’s what’s coming soon:
Bigger Rebates for More Households
The WA Government is expanding its Residential Battery Scheme to help up to 100,000 households get battery storage. This will work alongside the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, offering combined rebates:
Synergy customers: Up to $5,000 (includes $1,300 from WA + federal support)
Horizon Power customers: Up to $7,500 (includes $3,800 from WA + federal support)
These rebates are for a 10kWh battery installation and will be available from 1 July 2025.
How the Rebates Work
WA state rebate:
Synergy: $130 per kWh, up to $1,300 (for batteries up to 10kWh or more*)
Horizon Power: $380 per kWh, up to $3,800 (for batteries up to 10kWh or more*)
Federal top-up: Adds to these amounts for a bigger total rebate.
No Interest Loans
Who can apply: Households with combined income under $210,000/year.
Amount: Up to $10,000.
Repayment: Over up to 10 years.
What it covers: Batteries, plus new or upgraded inverters and solar panels (when installed with a battery).
Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Requirement
To get the rebate or loan, you must join a Virtual Power Plant.
What’s a VPP? Your battery helps stabilize the grid and you may be paid for sharing stored energy.
Key Points
Applications not open yet – stay tuned for updates.
Approved equipment and installers: List still to be confirmed.
Batteries installed before the Scheme starts are not eligible for rebates or loans.
The Big Picture
By supporting up to 100,000 batteries, the Scheme could add 1GWh of storage to WA’s grid, helping to keep energy prices stable and supporting a cleaner, more secure energy future.
But what if I don’t want a 10kwh battery?
You do not have to install a 10kWh battery to qualify for the WA Residential Battery Scheme. The scheme allows for batteries with a minimum usable capacity of 5kWh to be eligible.
The rebates are calculated per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of usable capacity, up to a maximum of 10kWh for the full rebate (for example, Synergy customers get $130 per kWh up to $1,300, and Horizon Power customers get $380 per kWh up to $3,800). If you install a battery smaller than 10kWh, you will receive a rebate proportional to its size—so, for instance, a 5kWh battery would earn you half the maximum rebate.
Batteries larger than 10kWh are eligible for the maximum rebate, but you do not get extra rebate for the capacity above 10kWh under the WA scheme
